Why isn’t the message getting through?

  • Fewer UK consumers are taking sustainability into consideration when making purchases than in 2023
  • Passenger flights are heading back to pre-Pandemic levels
What’s going wrong?
It’s a combination of things – including the cost of living crisis, a small reduction in energy costs and a growing sense that the efforts of the individual consumer make no difference. 
The feeling goes, “Why should I feel guilty about a family holiday to Spain when Taylor Swift takes over 100 private jet flights in a year?”.

As an industry, we need to get better not at communicating the climate change message, but at communicating the customer benefit. We need to get back to marketing basics.
